The Eggsucking Leech is one of the most well known and utilized patterns in Alaska for everything that swims Alaskan waters. The Eggsucking Leech is a very versatile pattern for lakes and streams as well as estuaries for salmon.

Grayling, Grayling, Grayling. That is what you get with the Grey Hackle Peacock. Simple but very effective the GHP is a great dry fly for those small streams with Grayling lurking in the ripples. Yes they are there somewhere you just need the GHP to bring them into view.

The FLESH FLY could one of the most overlooked patterns for big Alaskan Rainbows. By late fall there is hundreds of thousands of rotting salmon throughout Alaska. The flesh from these salmon can be seen floating in the currents and that’s when the flesh fly can be deadly on big Bows gorging before winter freeze up.

By mid summer Alaska’s rivers and streams are choked with free-floating eggs deposited by the thousands of salmon that spawn each year. The DEEP SIX was an egg pattern designed for deep and fast rivers where some weight is needed to get the pattern down to the fish.

THE ALEVIN is a salmon fry just emerging from its redd and into its new world. The egg sac still attached, provides needed nutrients to begin its life. All predators prowling early spring waters love the double morsel of protein and nutrients in one gulp. I hooked the largest Rainbow on this very pattern but unfortunately it got away.

The GASTINEAU SMOLT is a great pattern representing a young salmon. Trolling the smolt behind a canoe or float tube is an effective way to use this pattern. It doesn’t look like much in the water but it effectively resembles small fish in Alaska’s waters.
$1.50 ea
The BLACK MATUKA is a great fly for still waters where leaches reside. The Leach is a delicacy to Stillwater trout and the Black Matuka is a great pattern to fool fly shy trout as they cannot refuse a leech and will attack before thinking too much.
$2.00 ea
SUPER SHRIMP RED is a hot fly for all species of salmon and big Rainbows and Dollies. This fly is Rambling Angler’s most popular. Slow drifted through deep runs or shallow shoals this fly produces. The Coho prefers a strip-stop retrieve which also tends to keep all those Pinks off your fly as the Coho attacks.
$2.00 ea
SUPER SHRIMP BLACK is a great fly on dark overcast days. For all species of salmon, as well as Rainbows and Dollies the Super Shrimp Black does the trick.
$1.50 ea
THE SALMON SLAYER got its name by slaying Salmon all across Alaska and Canada. This pattern is simple but effective. Slow drifted or fast stripped through Salmon haunts tends to turn the calm lazy surface into a frothing boil of flesh and foam.
The Silver Smolt is an excellent representation of a young salmonid and triggers some violent strikes from Dollies, Rainbows and Coho. Dead drift or strip the Silver Smolt is a great search pattern.
