2012 BASSMASTER CLASSIC NEWS IKE And TAK Tie For 25th Position 2012 Bassmaster Classic
Mike Iaconelli probably has the largest fan base in the world of bass fishing but Takahiro Omori, with the popularity of bass fishing in Japan, also has a lot of fans as well. When the two tied for the last position to move on to the final day of the bassmaster classic some of those fans thought their guy made it in while others wondered about the tie.
Stay with me here because I will explain why Ike will not fish Sunday and why Tak will. The rules are as follows for the classic. The fish off is out due to the fact that the tie took place outside number one. The next step is to take the most fished weighed during the competition. Ike and Tak both limited on both days so this rule doesn't work on to the next. The next step is the most live fish weighed during competition. Both anglers weighed all live fish and in fact not a single fish has perished thus far during this bassmaster classic so yet another level of rules is needed. The next step is to award the position, in this case 25th place and another shot at winning the classic, to the angler with the heaviest catch of the two days of competition. Iaconelli had 10-7 on day one and 13-5 on day two while Omori weighed 13-14 on day one and 9-14 on day two. Omori wins the tie and moves on to fish Sunday.
Had the two weights been the same for the heaviest bag then the second heaviest bag for the two anglers would have been compared and Ike would have won based on that tie breaker. What a close one for both anglers and a let down for thousands of Ike fans especially those that had him in their fantasy line-up. I have Takahiro in my line-up and I hope he makes a huge jump up from the position he almost missed. Another interesting tid bit Ike won the classic in 2003 Tak won in 2004 both in the last few minutes of the bassmaster classic. Great stuff and stories like these will help grow the sport of bass fishing.
Lawmakers prod feds to heed plan for stopping carp

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Thirty-one members of Congress prodded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Friday to consider a multi-billion-dollar plan released this week for cutting a Chicago-area link between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River watersheds to stop migration of Asian carp and other invasive species.
The lawmakers said a blueprint commissioned by two organizations should help the corps speed up its own study of how to shut down aquatic pathways between the two drainage basins, scheduled for completion by late 2015. Critics say that’s too slow, with Asian carp threatening to use the Chicago waterway system to reach Lake Michigan, where scientists say the voracious fish could devastate native fish populations by gobbling up plankton at the base of the food chain.
The proposal from the Great Lakes Commission and the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative offers three alternatives for separating the two watersheds by placing barriers at key locations in the Chicago waterway system. It estimates the price tag at $3.3 billion to $9.5 billion.
“We ask how the corps will use the thorough analysis provided in this new report and how the corps will be able to shorten its time frame for completing (its study) by incorporating the new information contained in the report,” the lawmakers said in a letter to Jo-Ellen Darcy, assistant secretary of the Army for civil works.
Alton Jones reported on his Facebook
page that the fishing was great on Falcon lake until we found a dead
body. It is believed that the dead body Alto Jones found was that of
David Hartley who wife Tiffany reported was shot in the back of the
head as they were photographing an old church on the Mexican side of
the lake. Mrs Hartley told authorities that she could not pull her
husband onto her jet ski and had to leave him face down in the lake
to get help. Hartley's body was never seen again until Alton Jones
happened along the skeletal remains of a body while bass fishing. The
investigation into the shooting was short lived when Mexico's lead
investigator in the case Rolando Flores was decapitated and according
to the Daily
Mail Reporter his severed head was delivered to a military post,
near the Texas border, in a suitcase.
Since the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series schedule was announced last summer, professional anglers have been kept in the dark about the seventh stop on the circuit — the Mystery Lake Elite June 28-July 1.
